Requirements Authoring Services

SITUATION- A business is planning to start a major online initiative that will have a large impact on the company. However, before they can start, DEV advises Management that they require a thorough BRD (Business Requirements Document).

ISSUE- The BRD is critical to the success of a project. Starting without it would be the same thing as building a skyscraper without finished blueprints. The purpose of a BRD is to define every element of a project, including functionality, testing, screen design, networking, content, and everything else imaginable. Not surprisingly, it takes a Business Analyst with many years of experience to tackle this sort of job… and they don’t come cheap.  What do you do if your need the BRD but can’t afford to add a BA to your staff?

SOLUTION- RPC has Senior Business Analysts on staff that have two decades of experience along with a Master’s degree on which to draw.

One recent example is of an engagement with one of the largest aluminum processors in the world:

  • October 2017- Client contacts RPC, advising they need an Alloy Management System for the company’s global branches.
    • November 2017- BA spends two weeks at their Atlanta office, interviewing clients and gathering artifacts and one week in upstate New York having workshops with Plant Managers
      • December 2017- BA begins working on the BRD, including weekly calls with the SMEs to address any open questions and to validate the path planned.
        • January 2018- Delivered first draft to the client.

Admittedly, this is not a typical scenario thanks to some luck scheduling all the resources, but none the less- the Client received a very professional and thorough (200+ pages) Requirements document in less than 10 weeks for a a fraction of the time and cost of recruiting, hiring, on-boarding, and equipping their own BA.

RPC knows the questions to ask and when the answers aren’t sufficient. We know who we need to speak to (and it’s usually not the boss). We know that Waterfall, Agile, Six Sigma are all useful tools and how to use them- but that it’s more important to make sure the final document speaks to the intended audience and says what it has to clearly and with no room for misinterpretation.

RPC knows that this is very important to your company and we are honored that you trust us to be a part of this effort.

It all starts with proper documentation.  Contact us for a quote today.
